Meet our maker

Born in Shandong, China, Wei Zheng comes from a family of carpenters who served their village for generations, but his father hoped for a different future for him in the city.

Wei went on to spend nearly three decades in landscape design, running a successful business in Beijing.

Throughout the years, he never lost his love for making things, turning almost anything into a work of art, whether it was a branch, a stone, or a hulu.

The experience of the COVID-19 lockdowns marked a turning point in Wei’s creative practice and design philosophy. He began devoting his time to the making of wooden cups.

With antiya in mind, Wei believes that people need anchors in an ever-changing world. Through his work, he hopes to offer a sense of balance by creating objects that can accompany people for a while on their journey through life.

For Wei, to cherish an object is to use it. What remains is left to time.
