The Scent That Stays

A note like this one is why we make cups from wood instead of glass or steel. It arrived last week, from someone three weeks into using theirs every morning — and it says, better than we could, what we hoped a wooden cup might become over time.

This is the part of wood that cannot be designed, only allowed to happen. Walnut and maple are porous in a way ceramics and steel are not — they take in what is poured into them, morning after morning, and hold on to a little of it. A cup used often does not stay neutral. It becomes a small archive of the drink it has served.

We didn't set out to make a cup that smells like your coffee. We set out to make one that ages the way wood ages — by absorbing, not resisting, the life around it. This note tells us it's working.
